Teh-O in a Kopitiam-style cup

Ahh ... missed the cat show at the singapore Expo today. So I went downtown to Banquet @ Raffles Hospital, North Bridge Road.

Had Fish Ball Noodle with a cup of Teh-O.

Yup!! The noodle was indeed delicious ... and HALAL somemore!

Errr ... it's tea, not coffee ..

Project Mid-Point Celebrations!!!

Choc Cake - Side View
Choc Cake - Front View
Friday, 01 Oct 2004, we had a little celebration at work. The mega project I'm involved is currently at the halfway mark - we are at month 42 of an 84-month project.

The construction work started sometime in 2001 and we hope to complete it by end 2007.

There were cakes & ice-cream for everybody. Our Consultants hosted the mini-celebration. The clients, us, and the management team from our other project partners, the contractors, were invited to join in the celebration.

I didn't take much fotos though ... cos my camera batteries died on me

I was still using my old & trusted Fujifilm Finepix S602Z to take these. Perhaps later I will upload fotos taken with my new toy - Nikon D70

Here's my take at macro shots of the piece of cake before it was devoured. Yummy!!! Choc cake ... my favourite!!!

whoa. it's a 9-year project?
anyway, fabulous pictures here!

Singapore Fireworks Festival - 08 Aug 04

OK ppl .....

Here they are .... the 2nd fireworks display at the Marina Bay. This time by the Singapore team. Seems that this week's fireworks was better than last week's.

However, I think I got my settings wrong - aperture at F7 & shutter speed at 1/5. I thought I set the speed at 5 secs ....

Anyway, I think they turned out pretty OK.

If u look closely, u could see someone's head at the bottom of the pics. There was these 2 stoopid girls who blocked our view & they were not even taking any photos!!! They totally ignored us!!!

There were soooo many ppl at the Bay compared to last week - cos it's the eve of Singapore's National Day (sort of like Independence Day).

Hope u all like the fotos. Any comments/critique are greatly appreciated.

Tomorrow, 9th Aug 04, Singapore will be celebrating it's 39th birthday! There'll be fireworks too, this time at the National Stadium, right after the National Day parade. And u can bet that I'll be taking more fotos of fireworks ... .... this time I'll try to get it right ...

Happy Birthday Singapore!!!

Fabulous job on these!!! Sat 14-Aug-2004 22:26

My first taste of taking shots of fireworks ...
Tonight marks the beginning of the first ever international fireworks festival held in Singapore. Altogether 3 countries are participating in the display - Hong Kong, Singapore & USA. The festival will be held over 3 weekend - 1st (tonight), 8th & 15th Aug. The display will last approximately 15 minutes. The venue of the fireworks display is at Marina Bay.

We waited for almost 2hrs - came early (around 6.30pm) to get a good spot & set up our tripods. The sky has been threatening to pour since morning. It did in the afternoon but hed up after a while. However about 7pm rain started to drizzle & we eventually had to take cover. It cleared after about 10-15mins.

The fireworks indeed was spectacular, but my shots didn't turn out that great cos this was my first time shooting such event. Had to keep adjusting and playing around with the shutter speed and aperture. Anyway, it was a good lesson. You'll never know till you start taking/practicing .... that's where, I believe you'll learn & it was a indeed great opportunity for me. I still have two more weekends.

My verdict of the fireworks .... it's like sex after a long wait, it only lasts for 15mins ..... bummer ....

Hmm... you're giving yourself away there.... only 15 mins?? Hahahaha!!!

Btw, my settings for the KL skyline, 1/2 sec f/5.6 or thereabouts

Hehe ... sorry ... took a wee bit too long to put up the rest of my photos of my Lebanon trip. Blame it on Euro 2004

Ok, so here they are ..... more of the ruins in the ancient city of Byblos .....

We also visited the city of Tripoli - not Tripoli in Libya but Tripoli in Lebanon. Tripoli means Three Cities. Hehehe ... can't recall why it was named Three Cities

Tripoli (Trablos) is 85km north of Beirut. Known as the capital of the North, Tripoli is the 2nd largest city in Lebanon. 45 buildings in the city, many dating back from the 14th century, have been registered as historical sites. 12 mosques (masjid) from the Mamluke & Ottoman dynasties along with an equal number of madrasahs or theological schools have survived.

A sad event that befell the city happened at the beginning of the 12th century when the Crusaders laid seige to the city, finally entering it in 1109. The conquest caused extensive destruction, including the burning of Tripoli's famous library, the Dar Il-'Ilm, with its thousands of volumes of books.

Our 1st stop in Tripoli took us to the Taynal Mosque, an important building built in 1336 on the site of a ruined Crusader Carmelite church. Some elements of the original structure were reused in the mosque, for example, the two rows of granite colums with late Roman capitals which stands in the middle of the 1st prayer hall. The entrance of the 2nd prayer hall is a unique example of the architectural decoration in Tripoli during the Mamluke era.

I felt extremely peaceful sitting in this mosque.

Cool place..well but then again..anything other than Singapore is always better... Not bad photography skills..Now u know wat to do in case u get bored of ur present job... Wed 7-Jul-2004 08:52

More of Lebanon ... this time we were at Jeita Grotto and the ancient city of Byblos.

Jeita Grotto is famous for its phantasmagoric maze of caverns, abound with incredibly shaped stalactites & stalagmites. Unfortunately, photo taking is not allowed.

Personaly, I was awestruck as I went thru the caverns. Makes u glorify the beauty of God's creation ... masya'allah!! Glory be to God!! The Creator of the Heavens and Earth & all that there is in between!!!

Then it's to the ancient city of Byblos. Here is where u can find ruins of a Crusader Castle, ancient city of the Phoenicians, ancient royal tombs, a Roman amphitheatre .... and many, many more ruins.

Care to comment?

Marhaba!

It has been an exciting week for me ... the moment I've been waiting for finally materialised.

No, no ... not my wedding lah .... I've been looking forward to this since early this year, reading up on the internet & books that I can get my hands on wrt the history & culture of the country.

I had to give up my $150 ticket to watch Linkin Park in order to go to Lebanon. Actually sold the ticket to this very sweet, young & very pregnant lady, who bought it as a surprise for her hubby.

Anyway, the trip started out at abt 5am, Friday morning, 18th June 04. We had to meet at Changi Airport Terminal 1 by 5.30am. The flight actually departed at approx 7.45am.

Did u know that there's a cactus garden on the roof of T1? I didn't until I roam around after clearing immigration & having my morning cuppa.

So what abt Lebanon?? Well ... it's really beautiful and chaotic, the traffic, that is. Contrary to what most ppl think, especially S'poreans (I think), Lebanon is pretty safe, except in the south at the border with Israel (is there such a country??), where once in a while the Israeli military will invade.

If u wanna know more abt Lebanon, its history, people, culture, go read the Lonely Planet guide book. All I can say is that they are hospitable & friendly ppl. This is the place where u find the most good looking men and the women .... oh so beautiful!! I've been around, i.e. travelling to many countries, but I hv not seen such stunning beauties. It's hard to keep your eyes focused on the sights

The trip was short, abt 5 days, from 18th to 22nd June.

So enjoy the fotos .....
